Why Is Our Own Advice So Hard to Follow?
Share
Isn’t it funny how we’re pros at giving advice but stumble when it’s our own mess to sort out? I’ve been doling out tips left and right lately—where to focus marketing, which sales channels to chase, who to ping next—all for other people’s businesses. But when it comes to steering Minky Muffins and our blueberry mini muffins, the path feels like a foggy maze. Maybe it’s the emotional investment clouding my view, or I’m too deep in the weeds overthinking every option. Either way, it’s a classic small business challenge.
FOMO and the Comparison Trap
Scrolling through social media doesn’t help—every trade show and event sparks a serious case of FOMO. I catch myself feeling like I’m not doing enough, even comparing Minky’s high-protein muffins to other brands in the healthy snacks space. It’s tough not to think everyone else is zooming ahead at warp speed. I hate admitting it, but that comparison game can creep in, making me question our pace. At the end of the day, though, I remind myself every entrepreneurial journey has its own rhythm—overnight success is often preceded by10 years of hustle.
Juggling Muffins and a Mini Human
Lately, my days are a blur of pushing Minky forward and keeping a 1-month-old mini human alive. With time so stretched, I was scrambling—losing sight of the big picture and struggling to pick the right tasks. If I can only tackle a few things daily, where should I pour my energy? That’s when I hit pause and flipped the script. Instead of drowning in yesterday’s leftover to-dos, I asked: if this were someone else’s company churning out blueberry mini muffins, what would I tell them to do?
Reframing Goals for the Win
I started by ditching some pie-in-the-sky goals for ones I could actually reach. What do I want Minky’s high-protein muffins to hit in the next 6 months? Then I worked backward, mapping out bite-sized tasks to get there—tasks that fit my current reality. A full work schedule isn’t happening with a newborn, so with 8 weeks of limited time, what’s the plan? Laying it out felt way less overwhelming, keeping me laser-focused on priorities and the long-term vision for our healthy snacks.
What’s Next for Minky Muffins?
This shift’s a solid reminder to stay locked on your own path and vision, not everyone else’s highlight reel. Next week, I’ll share how this new focus is playing out—and if it’s keeping our blueberry mini muffins on track! Hungry for a taste? Grab our high-protein muffins here.
