Staying True to the Vision

Staying True to the Vision

We're back to the hard part. Waiting for ingredients to ship. Waiting for the recipe developer to start on the samples. Waiting to receive the next round of samples.

I’ve been in this position many times. In my opinion, this is the toughest part. I feel helpless. Trying to figure out what I can do from 1,000+ miles away is not easy. The recipe developer is sourcing the ingredient(s) that can help reduce fat while making the muffins taste like the last set of samples.

As she finds them, I am quickly reviewing the ingredients to see if I’m okay with including them in the product or not. Sometimes it’s a yes, sometimes it’s a no.

I hate saying no because that means it might take longer to get the next samples.

But rushing has already bit me in the butt once.

I want to stay true to the parameters I’ve set for the muffins.

Especially because now I know making delicious and healthy muffins is achievable.

This week, I connected with a friend who's also gone through the product development process.

I was distraught about how long it's taking.

It’s been 8 months and 20+ rounds of samples from the recipe developer. Not to mention the countless versions I tested in my home kitchen months prior.

But then she put things into perspective, as friends do.

We discussed her experience and how long it can take to turn a vision into a product. It made me feel at peace with the number of iterations and the time it’s taken to develop my muffins.

Sometimes all it takes is hearing someone else’s perspective. Bonus points if it’s from someone who’s been through a similar trial.

Thankfully, I loved the last version of muffins.

That means there’s only one issue to address this time around.

I know we can do it.

It’s so close I can taste it!
