Introducing the New Muffin Formula
We’re always looking for ways to improve, and we’ve made a small but impactful change to our muffin recipe. Moving forward, we’ve swapped coconut oil for olive oil in our muffins. Here’s why this change is a game-changer:
- Enhanced moisture and texture
- Reduced saturated fat
Customer feedback on this updated formula has been overwhelmingly positive. We’re excited for you to try it! Plus, our new packaging—arriving this week—will reflect this updated ingredient list.
Transparency in Nutrition Labels
At Minky Snacks, transparency is a core value. Over the past year, we’ve worked closely with recipe developers, food scientists, and regulatory specialists to ensure our muffins meet both our high standards and the FDA’s guidelines.
One key topic we’ve tackled is the categorization of added sugars. Our muffins are sweetened exclusively with:
- Date sugar (ground dates)
- Date syrup (dates + water)
- Honey
While honey is clearly an added sugar under FDA guidelines, the classification of date-based sweeteners has been less straightforward. After consulting with experts, we’ve decided to list date sugar and date syrup as added sugars on our nutrition label.
Putting Sugar in Perspective
Our muffins now show 15g of added sugars per 4 muffins on the updated label. To give you some context:
- 2 dates = 27g of sugar
- 1 tbsp of honey = 17g of sugar
- 1 honeycrisp apple = 25g of sugar
- 1 medium banana = 14g of sugar
- 1 cup of blueberries = 15g of sugar
The key isn’t just the amount of sugar—it’s the source. All our sweeteners come from natural, whole food ingredients, and our recipe remains true to our mission of providing healthy, recognizable snacks.
Why Transparency Matters
We believe in being upfront with our customers. Our goal has always been to create snacks with real ingredients that you can trust. Navigating FDA guidelines and nutrition labeling can be complex, but we’re committed to getting it right and keeping you informed every step of the way.
